Hello! I'm Charis, a UIUX designer
based in Singapore
I love diving into messy, chaotic problems and turning it into something people can actually understand and use.
I believe that as long as we design with intention and clarity, while keeping our design processes organised, we can always improve the way things work, from the products we design to our design operations.
How I ended up as a UIUX Designer with a degree in Life Sciences.
I graduated from NUS with a degree in Life Sciences. I would grow pale when I think about how I would spend my life surrounded by cells and pharmaceutical discussions.
I loved the analytical side of science, but I always found myself drifting towards creativity and problem-solving.
When I found out about UI/UX, it started to make sense. I never suited the life of a scientist. The mix of systems thinking, empathy, and creativity of UI/UX made me excited. I immediately jumped straight into the UI/UX rabbit hole after graduation, studying everything through YouTube, Udemy and books. I eventually landed an internship at a Health Tech company, Aevice Health, where I learnt how to conduct research, build design systems, and prototype meaningfully.
That led me to my current role at Uno Technologies, where I had the chance to take a product from discovery all the way to implementation. This product, named ScrubSheet, aimed to connect locum doctors to hiring clinics. During the project, I learned how to explain design decisions to stakeholders and push for what really matters to users. Together with the product handover, I also led the marketing and rollout strategies. It taught me that user experience extends beyond the product, and how we present ourselves to the world is just as important.
